Dream for an eventful year...
Today we begin the 2009-2010 Rotary year. Rotary steps into yet another year. Rotary has an illustrious history of service to humanity spreading over104 years behind it. This is the auspicious moment to make pledge and preparation for taking on the endless challenges of the ever changing world of ours and overcoming them like the glorious record of achievements in the past. Let our journey begin with new programmes and fresh dedication to the noble tasks.
Over 1.2 million Rotarians, from more than 33,309 clubs in 200 countries and geographic regions of the world, imbibed with the lofty ideals of Service Above Self, uphold the principle of high ethical standards in business and profession, social amity and international peace and understanding. They have been indefatigably and selflessly striving to that end. The crisis-ridden world of today incidentally offers a myriad of opportunities for the Rotarians to render philanthropic services to mankind. Rotarians have all along been actively supporting the national governments in many countries in their initiatives in healthcare, housing, literacy, job creation, post-disaster relief and rehabilitation, poverty alleviation etc. This will continue in years to come. We shall make consistent efforts to ensure supply of pure drinking water, improve sanitation, provide primary healthcare and promote literacy. We have to implement projects in these areas.I appeal to the Rotarians of Bangladesh to draw on their talent, energy and resources in the same manner as they did in the case of the recent Polio-Eradication campaign. I firmly believe that the desired success will not be hard to attain if the affluent segment of the people of Bangladesh comes forward with active support and assistance for Rotary's public welfare endeavours.
I fervently appeal to you all to make our life sublime by working shoulder to shoulder to build an enlightened, peaceful, happy and prosperous society free from poverty, deprivations and hunger.
May Allah bless us all.
