Message of the DG, September, 2009

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

It is with great admiration that the world has been watching the flag of Rotary flying high in countries across the seas since 1929 Convention in Dallas, Texas, USA. It symbolizes friendship, humanitarian service, professional ethics and international harmony and peace which Rotary stands for, for long 104 years and of a kind and character unique in the history of mankind. The standard has been handed down to us by generations of excellent and capable planners and achievers and it is now our sanctified duty to raise it higher and pass it on to our successors - the New Generations.

They need and deserve our love, support, attention, guidance and protection for the fruition of their latent talents and potentials. We have to remind ourselves that each Rotarian has a responsibility to prepare New Generations to improve skill and to ensure better furutre. Clubs ought to undertake projects that support needs of youth - projects on health, educatio, self-development and career opportunity. Please focus attention and cater to the needs of Rotaractors and Interactors and attach due importance to programs of RYLA and Rotary Youth Exchange. In the New Generations Month it is to be demonstrated that "Every Rotarian is an example to Youth".

A new crop of young Rotarians is joining the stream of Rotary movement everyday. The new entrants need attention, encouragement, involvement, orientation and Rotary knowledge. Importance of Rotary information dissemination in club meetings cannot be overemphasized. It is an excellent practice found in some clubs in the district where a short but regular session of Rotary information is conducted, generally by knowledgeable past presidents; Rotary information gleaned from various publications and sources are pubished in the club bulletins and briefly discussed or read out. Rotary has well-nigh inexhaustible treasure of information about its history, developments, achievements, policies, principles, rules, practices, organization, expansion, wise sayings, research findings and the like in the forms of books, audio-videos, in websites etc. Please take advantage of the opportunities. RI and the district are eager to extend assistance. Regular and sustained dissemination of Rotary information is essentially needed for grooming the new Rotarians and whetting their interest in Rotary. Classification talk, especially by a new member, is an effective method of inspiring him to get involved.

A long side, I shall draw your attention to the desirability of retention of old members. For the net growth of a club in the issue of retention of existing members is an important as getting new members. A club with good fellowship activities and worthwhile service projects is destined to be a vibrant one, it grows naturally and functions effectively. Now it is up to you to chart your course, but remember that THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR HANDS.
