Message of the DG, October 2009

My dear Fellow Rotarians,

We observe October as Vocational Service Month to highlight the significance of vocations and professions and the importance Rotary attaches to them in our efforts to achieve the goals as expressed in our Objects. A good Rotarian is a good man- a man of intrigity and of high moral values in his every day dealings and conducts, especially in business and profession. Hence the relevance of Four Way Test and its extended version in Declaration for Rotarians in Business and Profession adopted by COL in 1989. We are to take a fresh vow this month to dignify our vocation with high ethical values in extending service to society. We represent our vocations in Rotary and Rotary in society.

By now, I have completed official visits to many clubs of the district and am exceedingly delighted to record that those have been rewarding in as much as having clear understanding of the plans, potentials and problems of the clubs. I have discerned a sincere desire of the club leaders to forge ahead and the Rotarians' spontaneous support for TRF. I am intent to completing my visits to rest of the Rotary Clubs by end November, 2009, so that the clubs get plenty of time and opportunity to plan and implement projects and programmes to reach their targeted destination with greater vision and vigour. It is with immense pleasure that I acknowledge the way and extent of contributions made by the Rotarins to TRF. I hope the trend continues and we make a substantial contribution to TRF during the current Rotary year. The Rotarians will be reminded of the necessity of making contributions to TRF again when we observe Rotary Foundation month in November 2009.
Certain rituals and formalities are part of Rotary events e.g. installation ceremonies, and those have to be observed. But we shall be well advised to keep them to the minimum and look for the spirit and substance and not lifeless formalities and avoidable ostantations to make the events interesting, meaningful and attractive for all those who attend. The issue of cutting down expenditure on holding such Rotary functions and events can be given thought to. The resultant savings can go to support our service projects and programmes - the first element of the core values of Rotary. I conclude with this request to the Rotarians and the club leaders of the district.

I wish you the best of health and hapiness.

Regards.

AKM Shamsul Huda
District Governor
