The poor people of our country are lack behind of living standard in their lives. To reach the goal of standard of living we have to bring change in its index, ie; reducing IMR, MMR, raising average expectancy of life, increasing literacy rate and raising per capita income; but living with ill health, malnutribition, under nutrition, the task is a bit difficult for us.
Mother and child are main victims of iron deficiency, anemia mostly among the poor, specially who live in slum in cities and people of poor socio-economic condition in rural areas. Considring this point of view, Rotary Club of Mainamati has taken two health projects:-
1) Regular monthly Iron tablet distribution among pregnant & lactation mothers for a period of one and a half year for each mother to save them from the curse of iron deficiency anemia. The program covers 21 pregnant and 51 lactation mothers.
2) Dewroming of 6 to 18 years of children & adolescents to protect them from malnutrition & its complications, and also to maintain good health thus helping build a healthy nation. In this program, 102 children and adolescents have been included.
Simultaneously, health education regarding breast feeding, nutrition, sanitation, hygiene and health care that promote prevention of diseases.
The programs were launched in July 2008 and 5 more slums are being taken up as project areas subsequently. The sites are: 1) Araiora colony 2) Kaatabil Gadar Maar colony 3) Sujanagar 4) Babu Bhai Basti (Chandpur) in city 5) Joy Nagar in Sadar south Upazila of Comilla District.
